Say ''Hello“ to WordPress 4.5, ''Coleman“

After months of anticipation, we can finally welcome the new version 4.5 released by WordPress.org, playfully dubbed “Coleman”, named after the American jazz tenor saxophonist Coleman Hawkins. WordPress 4.5 features formatting shortcuts, inline linking, better-embedded templates and many more editing and customization improvements.

As always the team of WordPress stays true to their tradition of naming their new releases after prominent jazz musicians. But that doesn't mean that the new WordPress 4.5 wouldn't be full of nice little surprises. In this blog post, we will inform you what to expect from the brand new WP release.

Let's begin this list by stating the Customization Improvements first.

  • You will be pleased to know that no matter the device (tablet, mobile phone, laptop) your WordPress website will still manage to look its best and you can easily make sure that this is not just a dream directly through the Device Previewer Buttons in the controls footer.

  • Another great thing is that both Twenty Sixteen and Twenty Fifteen support custom logos. You can make sure your brand is out there for the world to see. You can try it out for yourself from the Site Identity section of the customizer.

But enough about customization, lets take a quick look at the Editing improvements, because WordPress 4.5 comes with some exciting new features such as:

  • Inline Linking. Do I need to say more? Inline linking is a cool way for you to stay on point with your writing and add links to your content with ease.

  • Of course, writing is made into an even easier task with the Formatting Shortcuts. Now you can use those formatting shortcuts for lists and headings and the use of horizontal lines and <code> has never been more fun.

But that is not all that WordPress 4.5 has to offer. You can sit back and relax because the days of rewriting the PHP code in JavaScript are over, all thanks to the Selective Refresh feature. Your customizer now supports this function and can translate parts of the preview without having to deal with the PHP code into JavaScript rewrite.

Also, now you don't have to waste time generating images because now they will load up to 50% faster thanks to the Smart Image Resizing. You can read all about it here.

Another thing that is grat about WordPress 4.5 is that Backbone is upgraded from 1.1.2 to 1.2.3, as well as Underscore 1.6.0 being upgraded to 1.8.3.
